The Right Way to Put On a Bra

Putting on a bra correctly isn't just about comfort; it’s essential for ensuring the bra serves its purpose without causing damage over time. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to properly put on a bra, detailing three main methods and some important tips to avoid common mistakes.

Method 1:
  • Prepare the Bra: Lengthen the straps to allow room for adjustment. Hold the bra by the band and lean forward at your waist, letting your breasts fall naturally into the cups.
  • Fasten the Band: Reach behind your back and fasten the hooks on the loosest setting. This helps ensure that the bra will still fit as the elastic stretches over time.
  • Position the Bra: With your body bent forward, slide your arms through the shoulder straps and rest them comfortably on your shoulders.
  • Adjust for Comfort: Stand up straight and adjust your breasts for optimal fit. Reach into each cup and gently arrange your breast tissue so that it sits comfortably and fully inside the cup. Ensure that the underwire lies flat against your chest in the center and encircles your breast completely without pinching or poking.

Method 2:

  • Prepare the Bra: Lengthen the straps to allow room for adjustment. While standing slide your arms through the straps and place them comfortably on your shoulders.
  • Position the bra: Bend forward at your waist and pull the bra down over your breast tissue and position yourself into the cups.
  • Fasten the Bra: While still bent over, pull the band tight around your back and fasten the hooks on the loosest setting.

Method 3:
  • Position the Bra: Lengthen the straps all the way to allow for adjustment. Wrap the bra around your rib cage with the wires at your back and the hooks in the front. Make sure the wires are facing upwards!
  • Rotate the Bra: Carefully spin the bra around your body, guiding it by the band (not the wires) until the cups are in front.
  • Lift and Position: Slide the bra up over your breasts and slip your arms through the straps. As with the first two methods, adjust your breast tissue so it’s comfortably encased in the cups and check that the underwire is properly positioned.

What to Avoid: Common Bra-Wearing Mistakes

  • Avoid Twisting with the Wires: When using the spin-around method, never twist the bra by the wires. This can distort and damage them, causing them to poke into you in uncomfortable ways.
  • Proper Wire Orientation: Ensure the wires are always facing upwards if you hook the bra in front and twist it around. Starting with the wires facing down and flipping the bra can twist the wires, leading to discomfort and the possibility of the wires snapping.

By following these steps, you can ensure your bra fits perfectly and lasts longer.
Remember, a well-fitted bra shouldn't just look good; it should feel good too!
